Mission Board Report
April 20, 2010
After our meeting in March I began to follow up on the property we discussed. The County informed me the taxes due on the house at 1818 Maryland totaled $2,207.18. After calling the Board Members asking for permission to make an opening bid on the property, all responded positively. I contacted S. Wolin Realty to offer a beginning bid of $2,500.00 to check the desire of the owners. I did feel it was important to follow up immediately since it might go back to the city/county if the taxes are not paid. I found out it was involved in a bankruptcy and am waiting now for the realtor’s response. He called on Saturday April 3 to tell me he had a verbal acceptance of the $2,500.00 bid but the cost to the seller will be about $2,800.00 after paying the taxes due for 2009. The July Taxes will be due yet if we purchase this property. The seller has no funds to pay for Title Insurance, which the realtor says will cost about $300.00 if we want it.
I have a meeting scheduled for all day on April 21st with the purpose of gaining information on ‘non-profit marketing’. The workshop is promoted as designed to help understand several aspects of establishing overall goals for nonprofit organizations. The 28th I am meeting with Dr. Bowser for assistance in forming a master plan for the mission in regards to the property and future use and layout of the property. I will be presenting the information to the Board for discussion.
We have had groups working almost every weekend on the property. Gregory Payder is working on his Eagle Scout badge and is in the process of laying paving bricks in several places on the property. On Saturday April 10th he was here with a work crew and will be back this Saturday, April 24 working on getting ready to put in the pavers. We also have two other groups working at the Mission on the 24th with one serving lunch.
Easter was successful due to the hard work by Jim Clark, Ed Matlewski, and Heidi Ewing and our volunteers. We served 278 meals and distributed 426 Easter Baskets. We had about 75 volunteers here to help and it was a situation where most were kept busy enough to feel they were doing something worthwhile.
