Mission Board Report
March 16, 2010
Since our last meeting much has happened. As you know Virginia Stimer has been hospitalized – at this writing she is home and has sent an email with her resignation from this Board. I recommend we accept her resignation and send her some flowers and a letter of thank you. At the February meeting I stated that there was little press coverage for the benefit concert. Prior to the concert we had two papers run a picture of the quartet Reconciled, and another put a promotional piece in their paper. Itickets.com did not sell any tickets so that was a bust. I am pleased with all the help we received from volunteers and the work done by the people of Richfield to make this event successful.
Our next big event is our Easter Dinner. I have sent out an email requesting Easter baskets and candy to fill them through the EMD.
I met with Dr. Anthony and he is unwilling to go forward with the proposal for Brown Funeral Home. I am certainly disappointed but agree with his evaluation of the situation. The operational expense would be rather large and the economic situation in the Flint area is not conducive to a major outlay of money at this time.
I have requested that the next meeting of the Vision Group be held here at the Mission. The objective will be to look at both buildings and evaluate how each room is used and how we could make the most of each room for ministry.
I want to consider the purchase of the property at 1813 Maryland which is behind the clothing house. The asking price is $4,000 and there would be demolition costs. I also found out the two buildings north of us are going back to the city for back taxes. I am looking into what we can do there. Do I have the support of this board in these matters?
