Mission Board Report
July/August 2009
We closed for the week of June 29 – July 6 as you know and with this change from previous years we found that we had a lot of people coming in for lunch, demonstrating to us that the need was there during the month of July. We did struggle for volunteers a little but I feel the change was successful and a good decision. We only served lunches three days, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday but the total of lunches served was quite substantial.
On August I went with Roseanne from St. Mary’s and picked up $100.00 worth of daylilies to plant along the fence at the front door. Several people helped get the flowerbed ready and Roseanne came to help plant the lilies. The flowers were paid for by a grant we shared with St. Mary’s from the Genesee County Beautification program. The grant is available only for perennial flowers so they will be coming up again next summer for us.
I talked to Dr. Anthony about the paperwork for the joining of these two pieces of property and he has not received it back from the lawyer yet. I encourage him to push it a little so we will not have to pay the City of Flint another $600.00 fee for their part of this project.
As you per my email we have received a promise of $5,000.oo from the Loeb charitable trust for the walk in freezer. I will present a motion later in the meeting concerning this item.
Our numbers will be higher this month for the meals served since the North End Soup Kitchen is closed for the month of August for remodeling. Very few days we have had less than 100 for lunch in August so far.
