Mission Report
Mission Board Meeting, March 18, 2008
The aim of the Flint Eastside Mission will not change with my taking the helm following the retirement of Bill and Barb Burdine. I am sure there will be some changes as there always are when there is a personnel change. I have worked with Barb for 13 months and she has demonstrated to me the love that she has for the people here on the Eastside and that is one thing that must never change. Jesus Christ sent his disciples and subsequently those who follow to demonstrate the love of God to people in need – and we are all in need of that love. I request an interest in your prayers as we move forward with the mission purpose, which in short is: “to help make life better for all the people of Flint’s Eastside.”
Our latest event was the fundraising dinner and we were a little disappointed with the results and the attendance. I must take responsibility for that and I hope we can improve on the response from our area churches for the event in December. We do express our thanks to all those who attended and all the volunteers who shared of their time that evening. We will need to keep these fundraising events improving in order to take care of the business of this mission. To meet the outreach needs, ministry needs and the numerous repair and maintenance needs that must be addressed, in order for us to keep the building operational we must have the funds from these events.
To report from last month's meeting I am still waiting for the estimate from Mr. Anscombe for the metal roof suggested for the clothing house. Three grant requests have been sent out concerning this maintenance job and one has returned immediately with a denial.
We expect to need over the 650 Easter baskets that were distributed last year and at this point we are still short on the number but are expecting God to bring in what we need.
