About the Mission

Eastside Compassionate Mission Center Inc.
Mission Report January 2007
February 20, 2007

Many of our clients are either homeless or without heat.  I can’t imagine what that is like.  Can you?  I read where our Mayor was going to open the jail again because of over crowding in the County Jail.  I once knew a homeless man who used to break windows in the stores down town so he would be arrested and jailed during these cold spells.  Maybe that is part of our over crowding.  What if they opened the jail for the homeless and those families who are without heat. I am wondering if there is a task force to find these individuals and care for them.  I understand that Consumers will work with those that  are unable to pay their bill but have they found them all.

Let us spend time in prayer for this all-important issue that is facing our community.

What happens at the Mission during these cold spells?  Many are waiting on the porch of the Mission when the help arrives.  Many sit in the Mission until we close.  WE are unable to give them housing because of legal reasons.  It makes us want to take that chance but if there were a fire they would close the Mission.  I am not sure just how many of our people are in this dilemma but we feel so helpless.  In the meantime the Mission continues to do what it does best.  Feed the hungry, clothe the poor, continue our Food Pantry, provide eye care, take care of the infants and provide spiritual help and guidance.

Thank you, each and everyone of you, for the burden you carry for our neighbors and effort you put forth because of the compassionate heart that Jesus has given you.

Because of Him,

Barb and Pastor Bill Burdine
